Expediciones Espanolas at South Australian Museum
South Australian Museum has a permanent display room for its Pacific Cultures collection. at that room, ethnographical artifacts from New Guinea, Vanuatu, Fiji, Solomon Islands, etc are display. the collection varies from traditional clothes, ceremonial mask, traditional weapons, to canoe and dwelling place. from the 10th of November until the 2nd of december, in the middle of that room held Expediciones Espanolas exhibition. that temporary exhibition reveals the stories of spanish maritime exploration in the pacific ocean in the 16th to 18th centuries. while these exploration are little known, documents and logs from the journeys have shown that Australia and many pacific islands were approached by spanish vessels centuries before Captain Cook’s voyages.
